What is behind the trend sport SUP Yoga and why you should definitely try it, you can read here.
A headstand on the water? This works out. And without any superhuman abilities.
The magic formula is called SUP Yoga and is currently becoming the trend sport of the summer.
No wonder, because the training combines fitness, relaxation, fun and nature.
But first of all:
What is SUP Yoga?
The abbreviation SUP stands for Stand Up Paddling, a sport of its own that has become increasingly popular for some time.
It is paddled while standing on a special board. This type of locomotion is now combined with classical yoga exercises.
Basically, only the yoga mat is replaced by the paddleboard. Where "just" a bit understated.
Because the more or less strong swell can be a real challenge. But that's what yoga is all about:
Find the (inner) balance.
How is an SUP yoga class structured?
The approximately 90-minute sequence is similar to a normal yoga class.
Initial relaxation with breathing exercises, asanas (body postures) and deep relaxation with Savasana.
The biggest difference: You have to paddle your yoga place on the water first.
Also for SUP newcomers a feasible task, because we steer the board, we teach you before.
Yoga teacher Mareike, who gives courses in her own yoga studio, also likes to give the participants time to get a feel for the board.
Which yoga exercises can be done?
Actually, everything is feasible on the SUP. Of course, with a handstand or a tree it will be extremely difficult, but it is possible. Exercises that Mareike usually always accommodates are the down-and-up looking dog, the child's position,
the warrior and also the bridge. The difficulty level is adapted to the knowledge of the participants.
But even experienced yogis should adapt to a new challenge.
Because even simple poses like the tree are more intense on the SUP board than on land.
So you do not accidentally splash into the water, especially body tension and concentration are important.
That's quite exhausting, but also extremely effective - for the body and mind.
SUP yoga is not just about physical training but also about relaxation.
"I like the idea that you get the feeling of freedom on your own island," says Mareike in a nutshell.
What are the requirements?
SUP yoga is not just for professional paddlers and yoga experts. On the contrary. Everyone can actually participate !!!
Even a private SUP board is not a requirement. These are included with all our equipment.
All that remains is the question of the right outfit. After all, some yoga poses hold a certain speed potential for women.
Actually, a well fitting bikini or bathing suit is enough.
If you feel better about it, you can also wear a T-shirt or sports pants.
Also do not forget: sunscreen, because in the middle of the water, the summer sun beats quite nicely.
If it gets too hot, but the refreshing cooling is fortunately not far away!
